Promise Legal
Alex is a startup-tech nerd trapped in an attorney’s body. He serves as managing partner for Promise Legal, Vice President of EFF-Austin, Legal Education Program Coordinator for SXSW, a leadership member of the Computer & Technology Section of the Texas State Bar, a leadership member for Young Technology Professionals at the Institute for Law and Technology, and the Founder of the Journal of Law and Technology at Texas.
As Managing Partner for Promise Legal PLLC, a full-service law firm for tech startups with offices in Austin, Houston, and San Antonio, Alex’s love of technology and his background in computer science position him to oversee legal matters dealing with the technologically abstract to the technically demanding. Mr. Shahrestani’s ardor for technology has left an indelible influence on the legal profession. From founding the Journal of Law and Technology at Texas, to developing cybersecurity laws for the state of Texas, to crafting software for legal practice, all achievements have followed an unyielding assurance that technology is a critical lens through which the law will permanently be viewed.
You can find out more about him and how he uses his CS background to inform his practice at txhq.org, and you can learn how Alex sees the overlay between law and technology at rise.law.
