Legal Technology: Invest on the Right Side of Regulations, Old and New

Grand MN

Technology is a critical part of modern law practice, but for solos and smalls, it can be difficult to build technological expertise in house given regulatory rules in most states. Most states forbid lawyers sharing legal fees with technology experts who are not lawyers. This session will detail how lawyers can invest in and develop a tech-empowered law practice within the bounds of current regulations. It will also explore how lawyers and law firms in the new regulatory environments (primarily in Utah and Arizona) are launching new business models that prioritize internal and/or consumer-facing technologies.
