Ethics of Social Media Marketing

While the current ethics rules regarding marketing long pre-date social media and Internet marketing, those rules are regularly applied to these new media. Our experts will discuss how the ethics rules are being made to fit various aspects of website, social media, and other Internet marketing. Learn the best practices to market your law firm online without inadvertently running afoul of the ethics rules at this session.

Robert J. Ambrogi

Bob Ambrogi is a lawyer, journalist and media consultant. The former editor-in-chief of The National Law Journal, Lawyers USA, and Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly<, he has been writing and speaking about the Internet, social media and legal technology for more than two decades. He continues to write about these subjects at his blog, LawSites, which the ABA Journal named to its inaugural Blawg 100 Hall of Fame, and in his ABA Journal column, "Ambrogi on Tech." Since August 2005, he has co-hosted the weekly podcast, Lawyer2Lawyer, available through the Legal Talk Network.

In his law practice, Bob concentrates in media and new media law. In addition to practicing law, Bob provides media and marketing consulting to law firms and law-related companies. A 1980 graduate of Boston College Law School, he is a fellow of the College of Law Practice Management and vice president of the Massachusetts Bar Foundation. In 2011, he was named to the inaugural Fastcase 50, honoring the law's top innovators, techies, visionaries, and leaders.


 

Jennifer Ellis

Lowenthal & Abrams, Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania

Jennifer Ellis is an attorney with the Philadelphia personal injury firm of Lowenthal & Abrams. She assists the other attorneys with legal issues involving social media and the web. Jennifer also manages the firm's online presence. In addition, Jennifer serves as a consultant to lawyers and their firms. As a consultant, she helps law firms to create or improve their online presences and advises on issues involving technology. Jennifer also helps firms analyze and manage legal issues surrounding social media. Jennifer wrote the upcoming ABA book on WordPress based websites as well as the chapter on social media for the 2013 and 2014 ABA Solo and Small Firm Technology Guide. Jennifer is involved in both the American Bar Association and the Pennsylvania Bar Association. For the ABA, she serves on both the Publications and Diversity committees of the Law Practice Division. She is the secretary for the Solo and Small Firm Practice Section and the GLBT Rights Committee of the PBA, as well as the Diversity Liaison for the GLBT Rights Committee. He also served as the CEO for a publicly-traded mining exploration company, and formed and sold several Internet social media businesses.
